Montana Comprehensive Assessment System (MONTCAS)


The Montana Comprehensive Assessment System (MONTCAS) is comprised of two phases. The first phase consists of the Iowa Test of Basic Skills for grades 4 & 8, and the Iowa Tests of Educational Development for grade 11. The second phase the of Montana Comprehensive Assessment System (MONTCAS) consists of the PTS Progress Towards Standards Assessment Test. The PTS is a grade specific test given from grade 3 to high school. The PTS has 3 specific areas, 42-multiple choice, two constructed responses, and a Montana specific ten question section. Montana does not require that students pass the Montana Comprehensive Assessment System (MONTCAS) in order to graduate high school. The Montana Comprehensive Assessment System (MONTCAS) has four different performance levels starting at the highest, Advanced, Proficient, Nearing Proficient, and Novice being the lowest.
